Sorbellos Sicilian Restaurant has been serving the Jacksonville area since 1996. They recently moved from their location at the corner of Wells and DeBarry to 195 Blanding Blvd. Sorbellos is one of those hidden treasures that reminds you of all the fabulous little places that line the streets of New York City offering an intimate environment and fantastic food. In March of 1996, the husband and wife team of Sara and Nicola Sorbello opened the restaurant after being urged to do so by a number of friends. Sara met Nicola in Sicily while serving in the Navy. When they moved back to the Orange Park area, they missed the Sicilian food and since there was none being offered here, they decided to open a place of their own. The results have been very positive. On any given night, this small restaurant is packed. What is impressive is that Sorbello’s has only relied on word-of-mouth promotion! “This is a friend place,” Sara said. “We have a lot of repeat customers and know most by name. If a customer wants a special Sicilian dish that is not on our menu, we will be glad to make it.” Sorbello’s menu is a wide range of Sicilian favorites, and the prices are very reasonable, especially for a restaurant that prides itself on preparing the food just right for each guest. Appetizers such as Bruschetta, Mussels or Tortellini and Minestrone soups make a great start. Sorbello’s offers three great salads: a wonderful house with a homemade vinaigrette, a Chicken Caesar and a beautiful Antipasto Siciliano platter. A large selection of entrees are offered such as Spaghetti ala Carbonara, pasta in a light cream sauce with sauteed bacon; Penne ala Puttanesca, pasta with a spicy red sauce enhanced with Kalamata black olives, capers, fresh garlic and anchovies; Chicken Cacciatore, chicken in an incredible tomato sauce; Veal Scaloppini, some of the most tender and delicious veal you could ever have; and a large selection of fresh seafood dishes. One of the absolutely best things you will eat at Sorbello’s are the homemade, hot and fresh from-the-oven rolls, they are truly incredible. Actually all the cuisine at Sorbello’s is incredible: the food is delicious, everything is served at the correct temperature and the servings are generous. Sara and Nicola believe in only serving the best: “We have food delivered here every day,” Sara says, “Lots of seafood, salmon, grouper, mussels, and all our food is cooked to order and made from scratch.” To top off your amazing meal, Sorbello’s also offers homemade Tiramisu as well as white and chocolate cream Cannolis for dessert.
